1&1 Upgrades 1&1 MyWebsite

Offers automatic optimization of web content for smartphones and a new social media interface that connects a business website to social media channels.

1&1 Internet Ltd, a web hosting company, yesterday announced that it has now upgraded its product 1&1 MyWebsite with two new important features - firstly, the automatic optimization of every MyWebsite site for display on smartphones. The second comprises a new social media interface that connects a business website with Facebook and Twitter. As a result, SMEs can now benefit from the important trends of 'mobile internet' and 'web 2.0'.

The company articulates that without any effort, website owners can now adapt their website to popular smartphones. The new feature identifies which mobile device is used when accessing a webpage and automatically customizes the page to the display. Thus, potential customers can easily access page content such as texts and pictures on the go. This increases the chances of further sales for a business owner. The importance of a mobile optimized website is also highlighted by recent IDC research showing that in the final quarter of 2010, smartphones surpassed global PC shipments for the first time in history (100.9 vs. 92.1 million units). Driven by the smartphone trend, people are increasingly switching to mobile devices for using the internet.

According to it, 1&1 MyWebsite (formally named 1&1 MyBusiness Site) can now be linked seamlessly to Facebook and Twitter. The social media interface is available in all MyWebsite packages, including the entry-level MyWebsite package for GBP 9.99/month+VAT. Both features are now also available for existing customer websites without an additional fee. The 1&1 MyWebsite range includes 1 domain, 200 e-mail addresses and unlimited web space and data traffic.

It mentions that 1&1 MyWebsite offers industry-specific templates for over 120 business types and is ideal for small companies with either no website or an outdated one. With individual text, picture and design modules, any level of computer user can create a professional looking website in only a few minutes - without risk, as the company offers a 30-day risk free trial. There are 30 new layouts added to the Plus and Premium packages, making website creation with 84 design-variations even more flexible and customizable.
