Terremark Expands Brazilian Data Center

Facility in Sao Paulo now among largest multi-tenant data centers in Latin America.

Terremark Worldwide, Inc., a provider of managed IT infrastructure services, yesterday announced the latest expansion of its Sao Paulo, Brazil data center, the Network Access Point (NAP) do Brasil. As part of the expansion, the company took over operation of the entire 185,000-square-foot data center facility, adding 15,000 square feet of raised floor space to its current operations. This expansion makes the NAP do Brasil - which is capable of housing approximately 100,000 servers - one of the largest multi-tenant data centers in the region.

The company states that the expansion of its operations in Brazil is part of its overall global strategy to deliver advanced infrastructure and managed IT services through its network of close to 50 strategically located data centers. Along with successfully completing SAS 70 and PCI compliance audits, the NAP do Brasil was recently accredited with the internationally recognized ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification, which provides third-party verification that the company's Brazilian colocation services conform to an information security management standard that helps protect the integrity of customers' critical and sensitive information.

It says that the NAP do Brasil was designed and built with multiple redundancies in its various subsystems that maintain the highest international standards for data center reliability. The high-voltage power supply is delivered from two different substations, ensuring cleaner energy and provides the power required to keep pace with growing demand.

The company further states that its NAP do Brasil in Sao Paulo is home to the most important internet exchange point in Latin America with massive and diverse connectivity from the region's largest carriers. As part of the company's expanded global footprint of nearly 50 data centers, the facility delivers a broad range of services from its expanded IT solution portfolio that includes the combined leading cloud, security and IT capabilities of the company and Verizon. Since deploying its cloud computing infrastructure in the Brazilian data center more than a year ago, customers have been able to leverage its global cloud infrastructure for the secure and agile computing resources their business-critical applications require. The company also delivers its leading solutions across Latin America from some of the most connected data center facilities in Colombia and the Dominican Republic.

"Our main focus in expanding our Sao Paulo data center is to provide local customers with a secure, highly available hosting environment for their mission-critical applications," said Hugo Zanon, General Manager of Verizon's Brazilian Terremark operations. "The NAP do Brasil offers our multinational customers a globally connected facility they can leverage as they deploy the IT resources needed to tap the growing Brazilian and Latin American markets."

"Terremark is committed to offering customers leading-edge cloud computing and IT infrastructure solutions that are ideally suited to meet the needs of global companies that are expanding into emerging markets like Brazil," said Rodolfo Garcia, head of Verizon's Latin American Terremark operations. "Additionally, we are able to leverage our well-known managed security expertise to provide customers with a uniquely differentiated level of security for our cloud solutions."
